A Meaningful Encounter with Project Suraksha: When I, Syna Mehra, a student at Modern School Barakhamba Road, learned about Project Suraksha's campaign in my housing colony, I got excited. I connected with the initiative's emphasis on enticing domestic workers to join social security program. I felt compelled to participate in this admirable project after seeing the positive effects it would have on the life of this marginalized and unorganized community. Especially after seeing the enthusiastic audience of this project, I felt the need to help out with the expansion of the project. I contacted the creator of Project Suraksha and I expressed my desire to participate in the execution of other new government schemes regarding domestic helpers. With the founder leaving for his college during that time, I picked up the baton of this project at the right time to help carry the cause forward and continue to promote good in my neighborhood.
Project Suraksha was initiated by Partha Jain, a student at The British School in New Delhi, driven by his passion for social entrepreneurship. During a NIFTI sustainability course at Stanford University, he came up with the idea for Project Suraksha. The sudden death of his neighbor's driver, which resulted in financial hardship for the family, made Partha understand the importance of social and financial security for the informal, unorganized, and underprivileged sector of society.
With the goal of expanding the scope of Project Suraksha, Partha has convinced like-minded volunteers to join the project in cities like Mumbai and added additional relevant offerings. From an internship at a micro-pension startup, Partha was able to successfully incorporate a pension plan from the Government of India. He is now working on further expanding the product portfolio by identifying a suitable health insurance plan for the uncovered urban poor.
